Melanie moved to Portland from Santa Cruz, California in 1999. She majored in Literature at Lewis and Clark College and began her apprenticeship with Dustin Ranck, founder of Icon, immediately after graduating. In 2009 she took over ownership of Icon and moved it to its current beautiful location on North Russell Street. She loves reading and writing, botany, spending time in her beautiful garden, camping, hiking, the Pacific Northwest, hunting for rocks and mushrooms, walking to work, drawing, fruits and vegetables, her pet chickens, Orange Cat, snacks, and sitting in her Lady Den. Her special interests in tattooing are art nouveau, flowers, lace, patterns, snails, chickens, birds, and fitting tattoos to the body.
